Your roadmap to a full recovery after breast augmentation

At Montilla Plastic Surgery, we provide personalized guidance and support throughout recovery after your Breast Augmentation in Greater Boston Area. Here is our timeline for healing and what to expect during your recovery:

First day

As soon as your surgery is over, you will awaken from general anesthesia in our recovery suite, where you will be under the care of our qualified recovery staff. After several hours of monitoring, we will clear you to return home, driven by another adult.

First 24 hours

When you return home from your breast augmentation in Worcester, you will likely just want to rest and sleep away the rest of the day. You will wear a compression garment to keep the breasts stable and should relax with your upper body on extra pillows, a foam wedge, or in a reclining chair.

One week

At the one-week mark, the breasts and nipples may still feel numb. The swelling and bruising will have significantly faded. Dr. Montilla will see you for a follow-up appointment to ensure optimal recovery. Many patients feel well enough to return to work after one week of rest and recovery.

Two weeks

At the two-week mark, your newly enhanced breasts are settling, with most of the bruising and swelling gone. The implants drop into a natural, youthful position on the chest wall. You must still avoid vigorous physical activities and may still feel some sensitivity.

One month

Almost all swelling has disappeared at the one-month mark, and your tissues are well on their way to recovery. At this stage, you will be back to regular activity, barring exceptionally vigorous ones. Exercise should still be limited to the lower body—walking, but no running or jogging.

Three months

After three months, the implants have settled into their final position on the chest wall. The tissues surrounding them have relaxed, and the implants are integrated into the tissues, moving like a natural breast. You can now go back to vigorous upper-body workouts and sports.

Six months

Implants continue to settle and improve their shape for 6-9 months. Your new breasts are now part of you, and you may rarely think back to your surgery but will be enjoying your newly enhanced figure for years into the future.

One year

After one year, the recovery process is complete. Your new breasts are in their final position and will feel like they are a natural part of your body. Dr. Montilla typically schedules your last follow-up one year after surgery but will, of course, be available whenever you have any questions or concerns.
